What traditions doe your family participate in for Thanksgiving?

H1N1/Flu shot 11/10/2009

Does anyone have any advice on the H1N1 shot? My daughters doctor doesn't think she needs it. Are you and/or your children getting the flu shot this year?

What are some fun fall activities you do with your family?

How did you manage the transition from a crib to a toddler bed? My kids have all learned how to climb out of their cribs so I took the front bars off to keep them from falling and hurting themselves, but now I’m worried that we have seen the end of naptime. I think my kids still need their mid-day snooze, but this week “naptime” has been replaced by an hour or two of running amok, screaming, giggling, and climbing like monkeys all over the furniture and window sills. Any tips for encouraging quiet time in bed, even if I can’t exactly force them to calm down and actually sleep? My kids have always been cooperative sleepers, but I fear where we are headed!

Some of our MOPS who meet here in Bedford live in Lower Westchester. Michelle would like to know, if anyone has recommendations for Lower-Westchester daycare centers.

In the tri-state area, how much money is appropriate for a wedding gift?  (It used to be $100 per person, but i've recently heard that it's $200.  Is that true?!)

Nanny Available 09/15/2009

Our twins are now in preschool so we have cut our nanny, Deli's back to three days a week, Mon. Wed. and Fri. and my nanny is now looking for a part time job for Tues and Thurs.   (She had secured another babysitting job to supplement her time with us, but that fell through).  She would also be willing to work just one day a week.
Deli has been a great caregiver for our girls.  Always on time, always has the girl’s best interest in mind and treats her job with the utmost seriousness.  She has been good about finding play dates for the girls, and is willing to do whatever she needs to do for their development.  She reads to them, takes them to the library and is just great for them.  She doesn’t drive, but that has not been a problem for us as we live in Katonah, right in the village which is walking distance from the train, library, etc.  For those of you who might just need someone for a couple of hours once a week, just so you can errands done, she can do that.  Or if you want someone who spends more time with your children, she’s fine for that too.

We're looking to buy a playset for the backyard.  Nothing fancy, just a fort with lots of climbing options, slide and room for 2 or 3 types of swings.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  We were thinking of buying on-line and putting it together ourselves.  Anyone have any recommendations for where to buy one in the area?  We don't want to break the bank either.
Thanks! Beth Blum

Some of us have kids who started school this week. How was it?
Lily's friend Alex, started Kindergarten and she was very excited for him yet could not understand why he "became a big kid so quick" and she didn't.
Lily is in her last year of pre-School.
Please share your 'First Day" stories.
