"Now that I Know . . ."
Speaker: LOIS SHELLRUDE
This month we will be having an old fashioned tea party and time to chat over a hot pot of tea and lots of goodies.
We are very excited that Lois Shellrude will be with us to talk about motherhood. Lois is the Pastor of Community Life and Worship at Bedford Community Church. She directs the worship team every week and accompanies them on the piano. Lois is a child of missionaries spending her early years in Africa and also became a missionary herself. Her own family spent many years in the mission fields. She and her husband Glen have two grown children, Amy and Mark.
Lois shared, “I lost my mother when I was 28 years old--just weeks after our first child was born. She never saw our daughter or our son, born 3 years later. As I have navigated through the passages of my life over the years--sometimes clumsily, painfully, smoothly or joyfully--my appreciation for my mother has grown enormously and I have often wished to know more about her own struggles. How would she have handled this or that situation? How did she overcome disappointments and fears? What did she think and feel at key moments of her life? And at times I have badly needed mothering myself. I've needed her insights and life's wisdom, and have so often stumbled my way along.”
“Every woman has struggles, ‘what-ifs’, regrets, and as a result--wisdom to share. But so often we don't have the wisdom at the time we need it! So I'd like to share some things that I've learned, some struggles that I've been through, and some reflections on life from the ripe old perspective of my late 50's,which, I hope, may encourage you or cause you to reflect on your life and your journey.”
After Lois speaks some of our MOPS moms will be sharing reflections on motherhood and what MOPS has meant to them.
